Fear of freedom

Freedom is a universal desire, yet when we lack direction in utilizing this freedom, we may stray from our intended path or feel discontent. I’m specifically referring to emotional freedom, where our sole responsibility is self-care, devoid of obligations to others. For many, this lack of engagement or responsibilities can be overwhelming. Our minds are accustomed to seeking interpersonal connections. Even individuals in relationships or with families might yearn for personal freedom, but when they detach from those bonds, this newfound freedom can quickly transform into a sense of isolation, leaving them feeling purposeless. Those who have been alone for extended periods, particularly distant from family, often grapple with existential thoughts. Conversely, individuals heavily burdened with responsibilities might yearn for some degree of freedom but lack the time to reflect on such desires.

Those who have spent a long time around abusive family members or partners become so accustomed to that environment that they don’t know how to cope in their absence cause there mind is habituated of being in fight or flight mode. In a way, they fear freedom because their minds are accustomed to that situation, leaving them with nothing to engage with. That’s why, in the majority of cases, they end up searching for familiar situations again.

Freedom becomes a paradox, simultaneously providing contentment and discontentment to the mind.
